Announcement: Third People's Health Assembly in South Africa, July 2012

The third People's Health Assembly will take place from 6 to 11 July 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa.Registration is now open. The People's Health Assembly draws in civil society organisations and networks, social movements, academia and other stakeholders from around the globe.
It provides a unique space for strengthening solidarity, sharing experiences, mutual learning and joint strategising for future actions. It is organised by the People's Health Movement (PHM). PHM works towards the revitalisation of Comprehensive Primary Health Care, as described in the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1978 as well as to address the social determinants of health.
The first People's Health Assembly was held in Savar, Bangladesh in 2000 and was attended by more than 1500 people. The People's Charter for Health, the PHM's founding document, was developed and endorsed at this Assembly. The second PHA was held in Cuenca, Ecuador in 2005 and attended by 1492 people. The Cuenca Declaration, issued at the conclusion of this Assembly, was designed to provide a strategic vision for the PHM.
Deadlines:
- March 31st, 2012: Deadline for applying for financial assistance & for proposing self-organised workhops
- April 14th, 2012: Deadlines for registration, assistance with Visa's and accommodation at the PHA3 venue

More than 1,600 Palestinian prisoners have agreed to end their hunger strike in exchange for concessions by Israel, including a modification to its practice of detention without charge or trial.
As of June 1st 2012, the IFHHRO International Secretariat in Utrecht, the Netherlands, will be closed. The secretarial work of IFHHRO will continue with less capacity and with volunteers.
