Georgia: News from the RFP Caucasus & Central Asia

On September 22, 2011 the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance (MoCLA) of Georgia awarded the Global Initiative on Psychiatry (GIP)-Tbilisi, along with other local and international agencies involved in a reform of penitentiary and probation systems of the country. GIP-Tbilisi has been IFHHRO's Regional Focal Point for the Caucasus and Central Asia since the beginning of 2011.

In April of this year, the IFHHRO Regional Focal Point officer for the Caucasus and Central Asian region held a presentation at a public hearing about the rights of psychiatric patients in Kazakhstan. The report of this meeting is now available in English.
Report training on health and human rights in Uganda, May 2011

On 26 and 27 May 2011 IFHHRO and AGHA, host of the IFHHRO Regional Focal Point for Africa, organised a training for nurses and paramedics on health and human rights. This workshop brought together approximately 30 in-training nurses and paramedics to learn about and familiarise themselves with human rights and health. The ways in which human rights and health are inter-related and impact on the professional work of the trainees as future health care providers were explored. A short report of this event is now available.
