On 21 and 22 February, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and McGill University are organizing an Expert Seminar on the Right to Health and Indigenous Peoples, which will take place in Montreal, Canada. The objective of the Expert Seminar is to inform the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples on its 2016 study on Indigenous peoples and the right to health.

The Human Rights Council has requested the Expert Mechanism to carry out a study on the right to health and indigenous peoples with a focus on children and youth. In December 2015, the Expert Mechanism requested States’ contributions to the study. Currently, the Expert Mechanism is calling for submissions from indigenous individuals and peoples and/or their representatives; non-state actors including non-governmental organisations; national human rights institutions and any other relevant stakeholders.

The result of the study will be presented to the Council at its 33rd session (September 2016).

The deadline for submissions is 29 February 2016.
