IFHHRO Regional Training, Kuala Lumpur 2007
Monitoring the Right to Health in Asia
From 8 to 12 December 2007, an IFHHRO regional training course on monitoring the right to health took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The course was organised by CEHAT, India (the Asia Regional Focal Point) in collaboration with Health Equity Initiatives, the Malaysian Medical Association and CARAM Asia, all based in Malaysia. This activity is part of annual activities of IFHHRO in each region (Latin America, Asia and Africa). The course is organized for professionals interested in learning how to apply a rights-based approach to health in their daily work, with a focus on the Asian context. The participants to the training comprised a mix of health-care workers, lawyers, and NGO staff.
The principal objectives of the course were:
-
to give a fair background knowledge of international human rights in general and the right to health specifically
-
to provide the participants with tools for monitoring the right to health
-
to develop and strengthen networking on monitoring the right to health within the region with fellow colleagues, facilitators, IFHHRO and others
-
to engage with other disciplines / perspectives within the health and human rights field.
