Monitoring Right to Health in Latin America
The IFHHRO Regional Focal Point Officer for Latin America with the support of EDHUCASALUD in the last week of November conducted a 5-day intensive course about Monitoring the realisation of the Right to Health in Latin America. This activity is part of annual activities of IFHHRO in each region (Latin America, Asia and Africa). The course is organized for health professionals interested in learning how to apply a rights-based approach to health in their daily work, with a focus on the Latin American health and human rights context.
The principal aims of the course were:
-
provide participants with basic knowledge about International Human Rights Law, with special focus on the Right to Health;
-
explain to the participants the role of the different mechanisms in Latin America to protect the Right to Health and how they could use them;
-
let participants become familiar with the work of the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health and practice during the course with the reports of the Special Rapporteur to learn how to use them;
-
provide participants with some basic tools for monitoring the realisation of the Right to Health.
