Call for more health workers, better supported
The world is suffering from a massive gap of more than 3.5 million health workers. Millions more existing health workers lack the support, equipment and training they need. On 26 May 2011 fifty organisations issued a statement, published in The Guardian, to initiate bringing together hundreds of organisations behind a call for more health workers, better supported.
Now an online mechanism has been set up to enable any organisation to support the cause by signing up to it at www.morehealthworkers.org. If your organisation has not yet signed up, please do. And if you know of allied organisations working national, regional or globally who might be interested in signing please encourage them to do so.
By June 14th, over 120 organisations had signed up, including IFHHRO.
More than 1,600 Palestinian prisoners have agreed to end their hunger strike in exchange for concessions by Israel, including a modification to its practice of detention without charge or trial. 
As of June 1st 2012, the IFHHRO International Secretariat in Utrecht, the Netherlands, will be closed. The secretarial work of IFHHRO will continue with less capacity and with volunteers.
